Saw Mary Poppins on Broadway, loved it. It's now coming to Dublin, can anyone who's seen either the Broadway/west end version tell me if the traveling production is on the same scale? As in the moving house etc

    Cheers

Touring production on a much smaller scale. Will be disappointing if you've seen a resident West End/Broadway production. I'd be very interested in seeing how they do the magic and the big chimney sweep number but think I might save my cash as previous touring shows have disappointed.

I've read a little since first post but yes it seems the "house" isnt as impressive as the West End/Broadway shows, the house itself is present but opens up rather than the actual full house moving, coming apart etc so thats a little disappointing as for me that was the most impressive element, the actual magic effects I think will travel well as they're practical, again prob not on the same scale as the residential shows, pity really although its obviously just not feasible but they do manage to
make Mary fly in all theatres so at least thats something!

In fairness, they can do that in school halls around the country for a whole load of amateur shows, would be mightily peeved if they couldn't do it in a major theatre!

I actually like seeing how the touring shows manage the technical difficulties when it comes to stuff like this. I thoroughly enjoyed Phantom when it came to the Bord Gais Theatre because I had seen it on Broadway & the Westend so the staging fascinated me. I have an interest in the technical side though, so I have a different thought process when looking at shows to others.

Its the technical aspect which fascinated me with the show when I first saw it, that amazed me, am hopeful some of it is still as fascinating with this production

I've never seen the show, only the film but it was a favourite at Christmas time for years so I think it'll be a fun outing with my sisters at Christmas time :)
