A plane was forced to land due to a bee becoming lodged in one of the instruments

    The airlines name was 'Flybe'

who would have thought it, it figures.

I wonder if Mr Playitsafe was involved?

More of a very crap, unfunny pun than irony

If you name your airline Flybe, the last thing you expect is for a bee to stop one of your planes from flying.

If you called your airline Aer Lingus the last thing you expect is for a bee to stop your plane from flying.

I should have expected this, but it looks like I'm gonna have to define irony
the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irony

The name of the airline makes the particular incident involving a bee ironic

It's also quite ironic that someone would come onto a thread about Irony to declare something not to be ironic without actually knowing what the word Irony means.

But bee and be are different words. This is not irony
