waste water tank problem

    Hi all

Posting on behalf of a friend. He has an Autotrail Apache 700SE motorhome and is having difficulty with the waste water tank.

When the waste water tank drain valve is closed there seems to be an airlock in the tank. This causes the sink and shower to back fill and then drain very slowly as the air in the tank can only escape back through the plug holes. When the valve is opened the sink and shower empty as normal.

My question - should there be a vent on the top of the tank to prevent this airlocking problem. When lying on the ground beneath the tank I can't see if there is a vent hose that might possibly be blocked.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks for reading.

There should be a vent/overflow pipe from the top of the tank.
Vent to allow efficient draining from sinks/shower
Overflow to prevent sink contents coming back through shower and flooding bathroom if tank is full.
However the latter condition should never be allowed to develop ;)
