Hi everyone. I've been getting a lot of different answers from people I know, so I said I would ask here. When you published your first book, did you have to register as self employed?

You have to fill in your taxes as a self-employed person, but for employment purposes, it's regarded as providing a service rather than hours of work. You provide the publisher with Xk words of prose, and they pay you money. No one cares how many hours went into the book.
