Smoke out of engine oil cap ? .

Hi l have a VW Caddy just recently serviced .
It went into limp mode 3 weeks ago due low oil level ,it had been
18,000km after it's last service so last service oil must of burned away somehow.
Didn't run dry thankfully but low enough for limp mode to kick in.
There are no leaks.

I got it serviced and all was grand but the other day it didn't feel right was jerking as if it was a dirty fuel feel.

Pulled into garage and while engine was still running opened oil cap and smoke was coming out .

There's plenty of oil in it now but am concerned smoke coming out of oil cap is a very bad sign .

Anyone any opinions without seeing it.

That smoke/steam you are seeing is normal.

Low oil level won't cause limp mode, there must be some other issue.

Thanks George for reply.
3 weeks ago it lost power , was barely driving but very slow.
It was then l noticed oil level was worryingly low ,the oil light hadn't come on .
Engine light was on.

Got it transported to garage which l trust and they looked at it and said
its not showing up anything on computer and just needs a service.

Full service later it was driving grand again.

It was just the other day when didn't feel right l pulled in ,must of left it running because took out dip stick and saw smoke then opened oil cap and smoke was worse.
Definitely wasn't steam.

A bit more info its the new 1.6 diesel engine with 105km on the clock,
if l trust the previous owners service records its on its 5th service,not the ideal amount should be 7th going by every 15km but doesn't seem too out of line to me .

Is there a chance if the wrong oil was used last service gone it could cause smoke but then there's the question why did last oil burn away .
