Changing door wood colour from dark to bright

Howdy, I'm fed up of the colour of the doors and skirting in the house as it's a dark varnish colour so I'm looking to varnish to a bright colour.
What is the best way of doing this, is it possible to paint a neutral colour and then paint over it with the brighter varnish?
I've attached a picture of the door to show the dark varnish currently on it.
    Thanks.

No, its a pine door stained mahogany. Best to paint it. It would be cheaper to get new doors than to strip them back.

Lots of sanding then painting/varnishing in lighter tone. Prepare for tired arms! The doors in my house were all like this when I bought it and I didn't like the darkness, now all are painted satinwood white and look far better and brighten the room up.

The frame of the door is the same colour so I'd have to strip that anyway, any advice on doing this?

Is it possible to remove the frame as well if I was to go that route and change everything?

Yes it all can be replaced.

To replace door ,frame ,and architrave will cost € 240 upwards , it could be worth your while to get a few tester paint pots and try some colours first , unless you want a timber finish,

    BIN Prime the lot first.

Then 2 coats of satinwood or gloss!

I've also painted the door frames before, but replaced the doors and architraves and varnished them.

It looks well if done right!
