BMW boot not opening AT ALL! - E39

    Hi lads,

In a bit of a bind. Last year my boot release button stopped working inside the car and I never bothered to get it fixed knowing I could still use the key to open it manually. Now the key won't open it. It just turns freely to the left and nothing catches inside the lock mechanism. There's no way in through the back seats either as its a solid steel frame. So now I'm screwed with no way in to the boot, and all of my groceries in it! :(

    Any thoughts?

That a stitch in time saves nine.

The reason the button inside won't work is probably the wires from car to boot have chafed and been damaged.
That the key won't work sounds like a separate issue with the mechanism or blown fuse 53.
    Start with fuse.

Fuse seems to be ok. If I could just get it open I could begin to figure out the problem. Its getting it open is the challenge!

Switch fuse anyway with another of same amps, just to check.

    Saw this on another forum:
look at the lock where the key goes in on the trunk. I think it should be in the vertical position. Can't remember exactly, but change the direction from horizontal to vertical and vice versa till it works.

Seemed to work for that person...worth a shot....
