No Work References.

    Hey people :)

I am in the middle of a Degree and I expect to get quite good results in the end because I like it and seem to have a decent enough aptitude for it. I am 25 at the moment and have done quite a few odd jobs here and there. I worked in a bar up the north briefly, shop that has closed down but I turned 18 in 2008 so have never had a proper steady job because of the down turn. I went back to college to try get some skills that will help me get a steady job.

now that I am a year away from finishing I have a worry. I have no real references at all really. Lots of the places/shops I worked in have closed down and I can't find the old manager/owner. I get on well and try in college so I'm sure I will get an academic reference off one of my lecturers.

Is there anything that I could possibly do to improve my references before I graduate? Would this possibly affect my chances of getting a job once graduated? It is a genuine worry I have in the back of my mind at the moment.

    Thanks for listening all

I'm assuming your college doesn't do job placement.

Could you get a summer intern job/job bridge in your chosen area?

That is something to consider alright if I can't get paid work. I was kind of hoping though that if I get a good degree in I.T. I might find paid work straight out of college.

Graduate jobs wouldn't necessarily require previous relevant work experience. Just get a good grade! :)
