    Those with swift nest boxes how are you getting on this year? Any in residence? Are you still playing calls?

    Terrible month for swifts so far. Too cold and wet

    Same here - I'd say there really struggling with the terrible late spring/early summer weather. Things will have to improve fast if there is not to be alot of total breeding failures:(

    I mentioned on another thread, there were large numbers of Swifts over Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Weds evening. There's a lot of older buildings in that area so possibly lot's of suitable nest sites.

    There's a good few returned again to the Leixlip (Confey) area.
    Was up in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim this evening and there were plenty of them swooping around the town.

    I assume Swifts breeding under bridges is not that unusual?? I ask this cos I came across a pair breeding underneath one of the main bridges crossing the blessington lakes yesterday. Never seen this before myself.

    in a gap between 2 massive concrete blocks propping up one part of the bridge - I'm back in the west now but will try and get a photo ASAP
