Amazon postage problems

I've just attempted to place an order with Amazon for 34 items, many which qualified for free delivery or a small delivery charge if they were Marketplace sellers.

On attempting to checkout, the postage cost was calculated at £91 and there appeared to be no way of checking its breakdown!

I telephoned Amazon and they removed certain items from my basket but it was still generating a postage charge.

Is there any way to view a breakdown of the postage charges and/or avoid them?

I considered using Parcel Motel but Amazon orders tend to come in multiple deliveries.

I haven't really had a problem with this in the past.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

i haven't found a way to do this.

i usually open a second browser and buy(up to the final step) each item individually to check its total cost.

Absolute pain still with this. Was buying 6 items well over the free shipping value and their systems insisted on splitting it into several sub orders with only one with free delivery. All items in stock and sold/fulfilled by Amazon UK.

Ended up taking items in and out of basket and managed to get it all delivered free but Amazon's system for Irish orders is broken!

I placed the orders on Sunday 31st after splitting it into 4 suborders and today Friday 3rd and almost a week and not one has shipped. I didn't expect delivery this week but I expected t to leave their warehouse. I've never seen Amazon's shipping operating this badly.

I got a similar problem last night. It seems fulfilled by Amazon is no longer shipped to us for free.
I'll be buying a lot less if they don't change that.

That's the regular thing now. I keep dropping and adding until I get free delivery.

Mind you, its Amazon that looses because at the end of all the okey-cokey with the basket it usually makes me think "Do you really want that?" - Create a seperate order - Nah.

They still have free delivery but some numpty has set it up arseways so that instead of it applyingnto all orders over €25 it o nly applies to your order up to €25 and anything over that is split to a new order and full delivery charged!

I have brought this up with them several times but they have failed miserably to sort it out and they don't seem to give a crap for their Irish customers so maybe an Amazon.co.UK boycott is needed?

There seems to be no pattern to it whatsoever, a recent order I placed was a mix of fulfilled by amazon and direct from amazon (total price £32, 3 items all ~£10 each) it went through as normal - free delivery, one complete order.

I don't think they do. This "hiccup" has been the last couple of months but I've noticed over the last few years that Amazon was getting more difficult to deal with.

A trivial example that comes to mind was a belt sander - which was grand - but when you came to order the belts they couldn't be sent here. There used to be a simple rule of thumb that if it was fulfilled by and not Marketplace you could get it with little bother. They seem to have chucked that simple approach out of the window.

I sometimes wonder if they supply us simply to avoid the PR $hitstorm if they were to pull the plug.

I've noticed that they've suddenly stopped delivering random items to Ireland such as certain shampoos or phones after they've already delivered them to me. There are often no problems with similar items from the same range. In one case a 300ml bottle of conditioner is unavailable for delivery here, but the 1000ml version is. Any attempt to discuss this with customer service usually ends up with a nonsensical reply, or them admitting they have no idea why it is happening.

Same issue and I think I found out why.

If any one item in your basket is over €25 - then that is placed as a seperate order and everything else is placed as sub orders.

As I needed these items and couldn't find them elsewhere I bought ust the item over £25 and it had free delivery - then I went back and put the other items (all under £25, but together came to £71) and tehy came up as free delivery.

Knowing a little about how online shops work - it looks like they have coded it in a way that an individual item over £25 has free delivery applied and once its applied to one item, it does not apply to other items.

Whereas when items are priced under £25, they are collated and the system then sees the total items as one item over £25 and fee shipping applies.

So basically - if all the items in your basket are under £25 indivually, there no issue, but if even one item is over £25, the idssue arises.
Solution - any item over £25 - order it on its own and tehn order the other items as a separate order.

Still doesn't help those who's extra items are under £25.

I see this $hit is still going on.

Just tried to order €100+ of stuff that included some bits and pieces like connectors and wire crimpers ...

Deleted all the small stuff and ordered. Started pulling the old bits and pieces back into the basket today and then realised - I don't need the crimpers, extra connectors, heat shrink insulation and cable - so tough luck Amazon you just lost €30 :)

Their customer service seems willing to waive shipping costs if anyone's experiencing problems with the Free Super Saver option. At least, that was my experience today. I had a £48 item and a £6 item, but the Free Super Saver was only applying to the £48 item. I got in touch with their CS through the chat to agent function, and once I put the order through, they waived the shipping charge on the £6 item.

The main drawback was that I had to spend some time telling them Ireland was eligible for Free Super Saver, it applied to both pre-orders and currently available items, and that my order was more than £25. Once that was taken care of, I was good to go :D

have been having the same problem with amazon for the past couple of months now also...just today i ordered 5 of the same item which came to a total of £45 and one other item at £10 ,all eligible for super saver delivery and when it came to checkout, it split my basket into 2 order and gave me free super saver on the 5 identical items but wanted a delivery charge on the 6th item...i got onto the chat function and they've refunded me the delivery charge, but something is definitely broken in the amazon checkout function for irish orders and they don't seem interested in fixing it all.

This is a pain!! Have a £6 voucher to be used off a £30 spend so have one £25 item and two add on items at £3 each but am been charged £9 delivery for the £6 items!
Has anyone got a link to their live chat, I can only find an option to use it for queries on orders already placed

That's the option I used. There should be a link for "Can't find my order" or something like that, then you answer a few more questions and press Chat.

I thought this was just me doing something stupid. I've been emailing them back and forth, and there's no problem getting the P&P waived, but it's a pain. They promised to get it sorted but as of this evening, the problem is still there.

Oh well. On second thoughts, we didn't really need that Anglepoise light and colouring pencils after all and I can't be bothered emailing them again.
