refinishing exterior stained cottage wall

    Hello,

I'm currently working on refurbishing a country style cottage and wondering what my options are for refinishing the exterior walls which are stained from ivy that has since been removed.

I've power washed the walls already, and they look better now, but they are still stained pretty bad so wondering what to do next.

My guess would be either a strong chemical clean, or painting over?

    Edit:

Unfortunately, Boards will not allow me to post pictures but I can PM them.

Basically, its a white concrete type coating with little pebbles mixed in. Although the wall itself has loads of sharp points, the actual coating is sort of smooth, like an enamel of some sort.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    -John

Old cottage - cementitious pebble dash finish = 70's plaster over original rubble stone wall with limewash/ lime render.

Research wall 'breathability' and the benifits of lime render & suitable natural paint finish

Cheers Brian. I hit google and discovered The Traditional Lime Company in Carlow. Talked to a very helpful guy there who suggested a lime wash given the situation. He advised that it will wear after 5 or 6 years but that's no problem to me especially since it's only a section that needs refinishing.
