    Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can help me but would really appreciate a bit of advice.

I got a contract today for a summer internship that I'm starting mid June for 3 months but I'm really worried about pay and how I'll survive as I have nobody to borrow from!

Basically, the contract states that I'll be paid 'Xper week payably monthly the 25th of each month'.

Now if I'm starting mid June would I be correct in saying I wont get anything 25th June and will have to wait to 25th July. It doesn't say in arrears so not really sure what it means. It sounds trivial but I am so broke and don't know how I'm going to survive on top of sorting out accom and a deposit!

Would it be unprofessional/rude to drop HR an email asking them to clarify this?

    Thanks.

Don't want to sound desperate but really need to know where I stand!

Give them a bell. I know in my place we give contracts stating they will be paid on x date. Providing they start a week or two before this date then will be paid on x date. No need to wait the month. Worth a phone call as I'm sure it's a common question.

I would imagine you'll get paid the amount you've worked up by the 25th of June - so if you start mid June that will be about 1 weeks pay. But every place is different so if I were you I'd email HR and say that you just wanted to clarify about that. As long as you're polite and professional about it they'll be fine. Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'll draft a polite email and just send it this evening as genuinely am really worried how I'll be for cash!

I reckon they will pay you on the 25th. My boyfriend started a new job last week and they paid him for two days on the Thursday.

It's definitely worth just giving them a shout. Hr will be well used to queries like that. In my old job salaries were finalised early in the month for payment around the 20th but if they knew in advance someone was starting and got heads up they could set you up in time for payment in June. If you don't ask they may not pay until July.

I agree, give HR a call. I had a similar situation when I started a new job- ie I would not have ordinarily have been paid until the July date. However HR gave me a cheque for some of my salary to tide me over until the salary was paid. The amount of the cheque was deducted from the 6 weeks I was paid in July. HR know you have to eat/pay bills etc so should be able to help.
