I made a payment to revenue for vat twice by mistake and I am now looking for a refund of one of the amounts. I called revenue and they said it will take 8 weeks for them to do it and that the bank can make the refund. Went in to bank and they said no revenue. Went back to revenue and they said no bank and went back to revenue and they were adamant that it would be the bank. Didn't make sense to me that it would be up tot the bank but revenue said that under the new sepa rules the ank are obliged to do it. Anyone any experience of this?

Where it is a once off payment or a recurring payment debtors can :
    1. Use your account to pay a SEPA Direct Debit in any SEPA country
    2. Instruct your bank to refuse a SEPA Direct Debit
    3. Prohibit the application of any SEPA Direct Debit to your bank accounts
    4. Specify Creditors who may collect SEPA Direct Debits from your bank accounts
    5. Specify Creditors who may not collect SEPA Direct Debits from your bank accounts
    6. Limit a SEPA Direct Debit collection to a certain amount and/or periodicity

    7. Request a refund for any SEPA Direct Debit within eight weeks from the date on which the SEPA Direct Debit was debited from your account. Within the eight week period your bank must refund you on a no-questions asked basis.
    8. Request a refund for any unauthorised SEPA Direct Debit after 8 weeks and within 13 months from the date the on which the SEPA Direct Debit was debited from your account

So it is the banks that are playing games. But in practical terms it may be just easier to wait until the revenue refund the money.

    Hope this helps
