Equipment Rental

There seems to be a serious shortage of gear rental options in Ireland and its pretty expensive. For example when I was on holiday in South Africa I rented a 500mm lens for under €1,000 for a month, but here Conns charge around €200 per day.

I am wondering is there much of a market for rented camera gear and if so what piece of equipment would you be most likely to rent?

For me I would love to have the option to hire big lenses to get a bit closer to some of our amazing wildlife.

UK rental rates are not as expensive as the local Irish market. 30 day hire for a Nikon AF-S 400mm f/2.8 ED VR is GBP £660 (€900) which is not bad.

Maybe speaking with them they might offer a discounted rate for longer term hire? At €200 a day you could buy the darn lens at the end of the month.

I don't tend to buy any photographic equipment in Ireland any more as I find the retailers too expensive. I am not sure if they can't get the discounts due to low volumes or what it is, but all I know is the Irish customer seems to be paying a premium.

Pays to shop around before parting with your hard earned cash. Warranty is with the manufacture and is worldwide and I'm sure both Nikon & Canon are good to deal with.

I had a look at Conns site, and they seem to base the weekly rental on a rate that = 2.5 days, so they may do a good deal on a monthly rate also - worth asking / haggling?
