Well this is a very welcome visitor to our local lake. I first noticed something a little different last week whilst doing a bit of fencing on our farm.

Got the binoculars out and to our delight. The first great crested grebe we have ever seen on the lake. She/he was building a nest on the top of some exposed reeds. A couple of days later we saw its mate. Wonderful watching these busy birds. Beautiful plumage.
But even better news, yesterday we saw another pair building yet another nest not to far from the first pair.

We can actually observe them from the front bedroom window. We are truly spoilt.

Just an update. All together we have observed 5 Grebes on 3 nests. All quite close to each other. If only I had a decent camera with a good long lens.
