Hi, i am thinking of moving work and the new office is located in Parkwest Dublin 23. I am from Carlow. Would anyone know how much will it cost for petrol on a daily basis? Commuting will be around 1.30 mins compared to an hour drive. I prefer car pooling but I tried some website but wasn't successful. Any suggestions/tips are much appreciated?

    Parkwest is Dublin 12.

I used to live in the apartments there, now i'm in south wicklow and use the N81 to travel to work in Dundrum.

My car gives me about 10.5 miles per litre so assuming you are doing a round trip of 100 miles a day and with petrol at 1.43 a litre, you would be looking at between 13 to 14 euros a day from Carlow to work and back. That could be a fuel bill of over 300 a month on top of whatever other driving you are doing. The above figures would only apply to my own car - you would have to find out the miles per litre on your own particular model.

My commute from where I live now to Dundrum is approx. 30 miles one way/60 return.

Also getting into and out of parkwest during rush hour can be a big pain in the rear - I used public transport when i lived there but I used to cringe at the huge tailback of traffic trying to get out of parkwest from 5pm (that was 2 years ago - it might have improved since then). The whole Nangor road/Long mile road/red cow area can be a nightmare for traffic during accidents or weather events. I knew some people who preferred to get off the M50 at junction 7 and come through the liffey valley shopping centre, round behind cloverhill prison and into Parkwest from the north.

There are a number of factors too depending on engine size of car and how old it is. With that commute you are looking at over 30k niles a year. Then you need to add whatever social driving you do I.e. evening weekends etc so possibly the car is doing 40-45k miles per annum.

You are looking at a serious increase in service intervals too. It really might be worth looking at getting a reliable diesel car and hopefully get out with 4-5 services a year.

Comfort of car should be a huge consideration too especially when spending over 3 hrs a day in it. My current car is for local commuting and just did a drive to donegal in it. Was a misery and as stiff after it.

Very good point. Before my move I had one service a year on my car. Now it is at least two and i'm having to change the tyres every year instead of every two. Insurance might be a factor also if you have to change usage to include commuting. Before my move I was doing 9k miles per year - now it is roughly 22k.
