Free NCT Check

I rang the NCT centre on Friday 1st May. They responded by text on 13th May and offered me an NCT on 6th June. That's a Saturday however and I can't make that date. I rang the centre on the 21st of May and informed them of same. Last Friday (the 29th of May), they sent me a text offering an NCT on the 16th of July. This suits but, as its now outside a 4 week period, am I entitled to this NCT check for free?

I believe it is free if they can't offer you an appointment rather than an appointment and time that suits your calendar.

If they offer you an appointment and you turn it down then no, you're not eligible for a free test. If that was the case then everyone would do that.

The free test only applies if they can't give you any appointment within the 4 weeks.

Even the original date offered was more than 4 weeks after I had rang them to book. I rang on May 1st and the offered test was June 6th.

    I read this online:

How is it decided if I have accepted the test on the 16th of July?

The customer will be provided with a test free of charge where an appointment cannot be offered within a four week period provided that:
    • The Customer has not declined a test appointment (either confirmed or provisional) more than twice, at a centre of their choosing, for the test due at this time

You need to reply and tell them you will acept the 16th July - but tell them that it will have to be free (according to their charter). They will probably find a slot in the next 3 weeks - and if the time or day isn't suitable and you reject it you won't be eligible for a free one. Don't give in - they do give out a fair number of free tests . They will try and avoid it - but be firm.
