I think balayage highlights would suit you best given that you don't regularly visit the hairdresser. You won't have an obvious line of demarcation as it grows out and the blonde will fade slightly as you get towards Autumn.

Definitely do some research to find a competent colourist rather than a basic salon hairdresser, preferably through personal recommendation. You will need a lightener to lift out the brown colour.
