Turf Tv Deal Confirmed after 1 Years Build Up

    Commencing from September 1st, and initially for a twelve week trial period, Irish greyhound racing will be shown live three evenings per week in betting shops across Ireland and the United Kingdom.

    The first of the meetings will be at Curraheen Park on Tuesday, September 1st while racing from Youghal and Mullingar will also be shown
    A statement issued this morning from the Irish Greyhound Board and Turf TV reads:
    TURF TV TO PROVIDE LIVE COVERAGE OF IRISH GREYHOUND RACING TO UNITED KINGDOM AND IRELAND BOOKMAKERS
    Turf TV is excited to announce a ground-breaking partnership with the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) to trial live greyhound racing content to betting shops across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Starting with races from Cork on 1st September 2015, the trial will run three evenings a week over a 12 week period, and will also feature racing from Youghal and Mullingar.
    The IGB is the regulatory body for greyhound racing in the Republic of Ireland, and during 2014 held 18,630 races at its 17 racetracks. Turf TV is a subscription channel distributing quality horse racing to over 10,000 licensed betting offices in the UK and Ireland.
    According to Michael Conlon, Sales Director at Turf TV, “Over the last three months we have worked extremely hard with the IGB and our customers to create a consistent and reliable betting product from Irish greyhound racing. We are very excited about working together to grow Irish greyhound racing both in our core domestic market and internationally, and we are very confident that it will be a prestigious and attractive additional offering for our customers”.
    Chairman of the IGB, Phil Meany, said, "We are delighted to have formed this ground-breaking partnership with Turf TV for the greyhound industry. Turf TV’s reach and access is right at the very top in the sports betting sector and we look forward to showcasing our world leading Irish racing product, starting with the iconic Paddy Power betting group. This provides a fantastic boost to our greyhound racing brand and is testimony to the significant investment and work carried out on our integrity and Information Technology systems which ensure that our racing will work for any target markets in the UK and Ireland and will, in turn, boost our earnings and Tote pools."
    Paddy Power, spokesperson for Paddy Power,said, “This is a significant and really exciting development for Irish Greyhound racing. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the sport to a much wider public and in doing so help generate extra funding for the greyhound industry.”

    About the IGB
    The IGB was established in 1958 is a commercial semi state body which is responsible for the control and development of the greyhound industry in Ireland.
    The IGB has licensed 17 tracks in the Republic of Ireland of which nine are owned and operated by private enterprise. The industry itself employs over 10,000 people throughout the country.

    Turf TV is the brand name of Amalgamated Racing Limited (AMRAC) and owns the live broadcast rights for 34 of the UK’s leading racecourses.
    AMRAC is a joint venture company owned 50-50 by Racecourse Media Services Limited and Timeweave plc.
