Importing 5 seat utility from UK

I have spent all morning being thrown around from billy to jack by the revenue, and ill i need to know is the answer to one simple quistion....

It would seem the only way to drive one of those lovely 4x4s is to be self employed eg= commercial tax and vat back on the 5 seat utilitys.

So being that i am self employed, im about to take the plunge and buy a 5 seat utilty (n1 goods)

My quistion is, before I purchase a jeep here, if I purchase a jeep in the uk that qualifies for the n1 goods vehicle retirements, am i going to be stung with passenger vrt, eg 30 odd % or will i pay the commercial rate of vrt eg 13%

If anyone knows where im at in terms of the vrt, your help would be much appreciated haha!

I think it will depend on what the V5 says. If it says passenger vehicle then revenue will VRT it as a passenger iirc.

I'm in the same boat. I currently have a privately owned Mk1 VW Touareg which is getting old. I'm also self employed (I'm a one person Ltd Company - I assume that qualifies?) and am interested in buying a new or used 5 seat 4X4 which is classed as commercial for VRT/VAT/Road Tax and BIK purposes.

Is there a list (or can someone here name) the 5 seat 4X4 vehicles which meet the above criteria? I understand there is a model of Land Rover Discovery which has 5 seats and is classified as commercial for VRT/VAT/Road Tax and BIK purposes.

    Touareg also qualifies.

    Touareg also qualifies.

I already have a Touareg, can that be re-registered as a commercial and is the process tricky/expensive? I'm paying €1,200 a year in road tax and that's one of the reasons I'm thinking of changing the car.

Sorry don't know anything about re-registering.
I just see that in the last month or so, the Touareg seems to be re. reclassified
    as in here for sale.

i.e you can claim the V.A.T. back and they call it a 5 seater commercial so I guess they must have wrangled an N1 out of it.

Yes. If it meets the criteria for N1 class, you need to get it to an approved place that does the conversion. An engineer has to state how it meets the requirements giving various measurements to show this.

I done it recently and got it DOE'd and transferred my private tax to commercial tax.

Really like the look of that new "commercial" Touareg. I wonder what kind of lease would be available for something like that. As it's commercial it could be very cost effective to have the Ltd company lease it. I assume the BIK would be minimal given it is classed as a commercial? (I've always owned my car privately and re-claimed mileage at civil service rates)

BIK is as per every other passenger vehicle. It's only vans that get 5 % BIK and 5 seat commercials are not vans.

Toureg is pretty expensive in comparison to the other 5 seat commercial SUV's so more to lease than the Disco or LCR, or Pajero.

No. I was more so commenting on the process to covert to N1.
It's straight forward and can sometimes be done in one day.

I got mine done and DOE'd over 2 days.

I wonder will the Skoda Kodiaq be eligible for N1 classification or if I were to import one from Northern Ireland could I convert it to N1 and get away with the lower VRT

    I very much doubt it.
