Mechanic couldn't change my fan belt

    Hey All!

I'm driving a total banger of an imported 00 micra. I will only have it for the next two months max as I'm emigrating soon.

I took the car to be serviced yesterday and I asked for the steering and fan belts to be changed as they're squeaky.

I got a call later saying they couldn't do it as there was a bolt/part that had seized and they didn't want to risk forcing it.

I'm not sure should I just put up with it for the next while or should I get a second opinion?

There's a spray that stops the belts squeaking but if they fail you may loose power steering and or your alternator

Worth the risk if it's just for the month. Where can I get it?

00 Jap imported micra, (March?) usually came with electric power steering, so no belt for that anyway.

Any motor factor will have belt dressing spray.

It works by softening the rubber surface of the belt, making it sticky and thus more grippy.
It'll be fine for what you've described, a squeaky belt that's not expected to last for a long time.

    Perfect! Would Halfords stock it?

Just had a rummage through their website and I'm not seeing it, but they might, I suppose.

A proper motor factor definitely would though, as would farm machinery dealerships and the like, and possibly even general hardware shops, especially in farming/rural areas.

I'm in Dunboyne, I'll give the local motor store a shout.
