Back in 2010 or 2011 we had constant windy conditions for about 2 months circa April/May. It made cycling a bit of a chore.

Junior and Leaving certs will be starting soon, so the good weather should be starting about the same time

I was very bright and did the 'leaving' when I was 4 years old!

Did my A levels in 1979

.... in fact haven't done any exams in nearly 30 years - finished my accountancy exams on 11 July 1985. Got a train down to London the next day, and paid a visit to Wembley stadium the day after that;)

On the topic of wind, 4 April 2012 was my favourite northerly - even the guys in the Giro could not take all my KOMs from that commute

    Me too.

I didn't mind the wind a few weeks ago as it was mainly a Westerly which meant I could head out in my usual loop with the wind, have a 20km section sort of into it and therefore a good workout and the last 10km was a tail wind but the last few weeks it's been northerly/easterly which is a pain as my return leg is nearly all uphill.

Lots of fake tan or something?

You really enjoy the days when the wind dies down!

is this good advice for cycling into a headwind?
    2. Change up to a bigger gear and keep pushing through it. The natural tendency is to change down to a lower gear, but this will only cause you to lose more speed.
i would have thought the same advice would then apply to cycling uphill...

Only if you have power/energy left, and a hard soul.

Otherwise get in the drops, make yourself aero and suffer.

    That's certainly one way.

The other takes a bit more planning, but is far easier in the long run.

    1) Join a cycle club or at the least organise a regular group.
    2) Take you turn at front when things are going well. Engage in conversation to project a 'caring' attitude and sense of team.
    3) When faced with a headwind, simply sit at the back and let your 'teammates' do the work for you.

Some will say that this is unsociable behaviour but this is easily countered by simply explaining that since you are clearly the most naturally gifted/oldest/youngest/tallest/shortest etc then it falls to you to practice your team leader skills and as such that means you have to train at sitting in behind the team. You will then be fresh to tackle the front when the time comes (which is unlikely to be today!)

Long term forecast (pinch of salt stuff) says that there is high pressure building from Sunday so we should see a bit of an improvement.

Glad to see the back of that month, to go along with the wind it was the wettest May in 120 years recorded at Malin Head.

High pressure is not just for tyres ... bring it on

Didn't have a bike in those days (would be getting my first car after passing those exams though)

    Suffer, shmuffer. My recommended steps for cycling in heavy wind;
    • Get onto a weather forecast site
    • Figure out where the wind is coming from
    • Get on a train with the bike and go there
    • Take a leisurely cycle home, picking up KOMs as you go

    Simples :)

    Oh, 1984 for the leaving.

I swear yesterday for once the 'headwind from all directions' wasn't a lame excuse. I was effing and blinding all the way home when the expected tailwind never turned up. Nice enough out today though.
