Smell from stove

    Hi,

Moved into a new build house about 13 mths ago, a stove came with the house but we added a fireplace and also the firebrick around and on top of the inside of the fireplace, above the stove. Initially, we put the smell down to the paint burning off the stove but now a year later we are still getting the same toxic smell once the stove heats up. There is plenty of ventilation, have the carbon monoxide monitors too but the smell is unbearable and makes me feel nauseous, get a headache and have some wild dreams. My Dad is a plumber and thinks perhaps it might be the gap between the new fireboard and the top of the fireplace and perhaps the heat is causing the smell there. Has anyone had any similar problems?

Sounds like you may have a creasole problem or at worst smoke being dispensed through a gap in the fittings.

I would advise you be very careful and employ a fitter to survey the instsllation.

My own suffered creasole and a lack of up draw which required a top hat on the chimney to prevent wind from exasperating the natural rise of smoke.
