A good start to Ireland's IC campaign, 46-0 off 18 overs at lunch, after a delayed start.

This is a big competition already, but the addition of the test playoff at the end is the major draw.

    Decent,solid start.

I'd reckon the aim will be 300 plus and then have a go at a fragile batting line up the Scots bowled out for 73 last week

Stirling closing in on a century and Joyce going well also.

    180/1

Joyce strike rate higher then Stirling and now has a century as well.
    252/1

    BTW 200 partnership at 4.7/over

334/2 now. Still going at over 4 an over, but it's slowed down a bit since O'Brien got in.

You really wonder how this competition is supposed to prepare us for test cricket when we're absolutely pummeling the 4th best team in it so easily. We could hit 700 if we wanted here

Joyce magnificent as always in this format. Such a brilliant player for us

    Joyce 221no
First class best for Joyce and highest intercontinental score for Ireland, surpassing 209 by Morgan in 2007

    405/3

UAE 207/8 at the close today.

Good effort overall but somewhat disappointing we've let the last wicket add 45 when we really could, and maybe should, have had an over or two at their top order today.

Lets also hope the weather is alright for a few overs on Friday.

Props to Young also, impressive again and lively on a good batting pitch by all accounts.

UAE All out, Ireland likely enforce the follow on.

Get them out again and then hit the required tomorrow, if necessary. Likely rain tomorrow though.

Ireland 28 runs ahead need 1 wicket to win at end of day 3

Young bowled a great spell by al accounts. According to the cricinfo guy he was almost as fast as Rankin for the new ball spell which if true is great news.

Forecast tomorrow apparently is fro dry weather until tea time so we should still secure the win.

Elsewhere the Scots look dangerous, their game is a rain ruined draw but they're pummeling the Afghans whose batting looks terrible tbh, 98/8 chasing 233

Innings win, just 4 balls bowled

    stupid making them come back.
you'd think they might have agreed to play a bit extra yesterday and take it off today's allotted overs, save coming back for 4 balls.

they did play an extra half hour yesterday (decided when Ireland had UAE at 217/7) but Ireland couldn't get that last wicket - you can't just keep playing in the hope that they'll make the breakthrough.

ok, didn't realise they'd already done an extra 30 minutes yesterday.

    Good performance.

Interesting to note that this version of the event will not have a final between the top 2, but the no.1 placed side after the last round of games will play the test challenge

BTW, does anyone know whether the Intercontinental Cup will have a final in this edition or will it be solely based on league performances? It would seem a bit odd if the chance to gain test status is ultimately decided by a one off 4 day match...
