How come boards itself is never mentioned

I read several articles recently ( mostly from an Irish perspective ) about bullying and vitriol on social media. The person being interviewed name checks twitter and maybe Facebook and then they say other social media outlets in Ireland, clearly they mean boards and to a lesser extent redit yet boards in never mentioned by name why is this yet twitter and Facebook are named?

Maybe the rich fat cats that own boards will demand a nice big juicy check for every name drop! ;)

Because Boards would be better described as "anti-social media". :P

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I imagine it is because there have been several instances reported of people being bullied on twitter and facebook where people have profiles with their real name (even verified) and correct info about them. on boards usernames are generally not real names. For there to be bullying you need real names it cannot be one anonymous user abusing another anonymous user.

I am not making my self clear, say you a public figure in Ireland could be anything, politics, the media, entertainment, the public face of conservative views or daft left views, generally the person concerned will be perused and commented on in social media and if its vitriol and they are interview about such vitriol they mention twitter and Facebook and then say other social media clearly meaning boards but don't mention boards by name.

Moderation is the major difference obviously. Twitter and Facebook are a free for all, boards isn't. Irish papers aren't going to go dragging an Irish business through the mud unless they're absolutely sure they're a major part of the problem. Boards tries to moderate out bullies so you don't get the level of disgusting behaviour you get on facebook or twitter. You won't find too many people that are driven to the edge because of prolonged bullying on boards.

The Irish media are just taking a global conversation adding Irish examples and after that research is minimal, basically churnalism. Boards.ie is tiny in a global context context so never comes up. See this "map" for an idea. You can clearly see Facebook and Twitter, boards.ie is on there see if you can find it.

I would have thought boards.ie is significantly better policed than the likes of facebook and Twitter.

What with the report feature and active mods able to hand out red cards (site bans) bullying comes to a head very quickly.

That true and it one of the reason I like boards, however comment on boards about public figure can veer towards nasty and stereotyping if the public figure is espousing unpopular opinions.

Some celebrities have accounts on Twitter and people direct their insults at them. If you say something about a celebrity on a forum it may go unnoticed. If you say it on Twitter and mention a celebrities Twitter name it goes to them as a direct message. Also Twitter is a lot more well known than Boards.

It doesn't take much for some celebrities to be insulted though. A few years ago someone said something like "I admire you greatly but your tweets are a bit boring" to Stephen Fry. Stephen Fry then threatened to leave because of the "nastiness and aggression". A bunch of simpletons kowtowed to his need for the world to love him and begged him to say. Even Alan Davies stuck his oar in and started threatening this person.

They're not fat, they're big boned!

You're clearly one of the bullies the OP was talking about.

Famous people are on on twitter, instagram, or facebook,
    boards is a forum,
no one posts selfies on boards .
IF you threaten someone on boards you,ll lose your account .
Maybe twitter has millions of users ,
they don,t seem to do much about users who threaten or insult other users .
except ban a user now and again .
Look at the daily mail there,s loads of articles everyday,
about the latest pictures posted by celebritys on facebook, instragram .
Obviously they have a journalist who just watches twitter ,instragram for
posts by famous people which might be sexy or interesting to the general
    public.
There,s nothing really dramatic or sexy happening on boards ,
that could be compared with the things posted on social networks .
You don,t stay in touch with friends or family by posting on boards.ie
What journalist is gonna write an article about userno763
    on boards .
it would be of no interest to the general public .

I agree with the majority of your post except maybe for the bit in bold. I'm not sure that incident was an arrogance thing on Fry's behalf. He suffers from manic depression and was at a "very low and depressed" point when he overreacted to that criticism. When he realised the backlash the person had gotten he seemed mortified about it, apologised to the person and asked his own supporters to please not attack that person.
Fry and the user later apologised to each other, with the star saying his reaction had been "a mood thing" and he now felt "more sheepish than a sheep".

The actor, who had been on a flight to Los Angeles, picked up on what had happened when he landed.

He wrote: "Arrived in LA feeling very foolish. Wasn't the fault of the fellow who called me "boring", BTW. A mood thing. Sunshine will help. So sorry.

"Feeling terrible for that poor guy. He had every right to call me boring. Not his fault it caught me at a vulnerable time. Pls be nice to him."

He then sent several messages directly to his critic, saying he was "so sorry to hear people have been abusing you" and calling the situation "awful".

The other user said he owed him no apologies, to which Fry replied, "Thank you for being so understanding."

Fry suffers from bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, and has talked openly about his condition.
