Do Stamp 4 holders need a re-entry visa?

    Hi,

This might have been asked in the past but I was unable to find the link to it. Thought of asking it here.

My stamp has to be changed from 1 to 4 soon now. I was wondering whether I will have to apply for a re-entry visa or will stamp 4 be enough for me to re-enter Ireland?

    Thanks in advance.

I would think the stamp 4 would supersede the stamp 1; however, you still want to get your passport stamped to prove when you left and entered the country to prove reckonable residence when you apply for citizenship

No, why would a non visa required passport holder need a visa?

Even if they are not a visa required country?

No, I should have clarified. Stamp 4 holders from visa required countries don't require one. Also, just to confuse it a bit more, Stamp 4 EUfam holders don't require re-entry either, but that doesn't seem to apply to the OP.

    Thanks folks!
I got the re-entry stamped today. Apparently, it seems stamp 4 holders(excluding EUFam) require the visa, though I've never actually understood the concept of this visa. If someone has a GNIB card, it means he/she is registered and therefore should be allowed to enter Ireland based on the expiration date of the GNIB. The worst part is standing outside the closed office 4-5 hours prior to opening of the doors - be it cold, hail, snow, rain, sun whatever, if you need a re-entry you have to be in the queue. Wonder why there is no online application or something for this!!!

You can apply for re-entry by post.

True! But the processing time can be up to 8 weeks. Another thing I want to share here, which I think will be a help to others is, that the re-entry visa drop box has been removed from the processing office until further notice!
