    It might be.....However:

it could be a crash victim,
    the clutch may go tomorrow
there may be a leak - oil, water, brake fluid, power steering fluid
it may have been a taxi,
the mileage may not be genuine.

The idea that a car just because it's a certain brand is after 11 years reliable is a bit of a sweeping generalisation. Sorry

in general, people will tell you that German or Japanese cars are the most reliable... i'd tend to agree based on experience but as filbert the fox says, you could end up with a general reliable car model but one that hasn't been looked after in which case it's inevitably going to cause problems / hardship at some stage.

I agree with Atlantic Dawn. A Toyota Avensis is the car to go for but look for a good one preferably a diesel as they can reach in excess of 300000 miles, and even with a good 04 you could still get 10 years out of it if its a really good one. You might even find a really good one in a main dealer.

I'd actually buy a petrol if you want reliability and longevity ;)

On Carzone there is a small selection of 04 - 06 Avenis's round the country that are with main dealers so it would be well worth your while looking them up if you want longevity. There is 04 in Carroll and Roche - Newlands Cross. They are main dealers for Subaru.

I would not even bother with looking for an 8 to 10 year old car from a dealer. In most cases the warranty will be minimal on a car of that age and you will just be paying extra for the dealer's profit margin. Plenty of good examples of these cars being sold privately where at least the person selling it knows something about the car's history rather than a dealer who just took it in as a trade in.

I have a '05 A3 and it runs like a dream 170km on the clock, but well looked after.

The one that is less molested.

If you buy from a 'MAIN' dealer you at least you have some come back, and he will probably know the cars history, and most importantly when buying from a dealer/main dealer the sale of goods act applies.
