My son is 17 and due to begin his Leaving Cert this week.

Does anyone know if May is the last payment or should I receive it in June while he's sitting his exams?

My payment is in the bank tonight but only for one child, I have 2 kids and just want to make sure this is correct.

No, not until December but he did finish school last Friday but the website says it's paid until June :/

Edited to say I've been speaking to some parents from his class and they all got paid this morning so I'm not sure why I didn't.

I've had a reply to my email to say my last payment was May 2015 and if he returns to school in September I will get July and August back dated.

He won't be returning to school but welfare.ie states ''If your child is 16 or 17 years of age and in full-time education you will get Child Benefit until June.'' So why did mine stop a month early ?

    my daughter's birthday is december.
she was 17 in the lc year. her payment stopped that july just after the exams even though she wasn't going to be 18 til december but she was technically finished school.

The website says the last payment is in June, his classmates who are also 17 all got payment yesterday so it's just not making sense to me how they can figure that I'm only entitled until May

Why don't you bite the bullet & ask them?

    1890 400 400 or +353 74 91 64496

For all you know the deduction may be something to do with your other child.

    Absolutely. No point in speculating.

I did contact them, they said payment stops in May for everybody aged 17, but it didn't for anyone else.

I understand that your child is not continuing in education in September but guidance is this for those returning to education in Sept and still under 18 years:

    Full-time education (aged 16 and 17)
If your child is 16 or 17 years of age and in full-time education you will get Child Benefit until June. You will not get another payment until your child returns to full-time education in September. The Child Benefit section will send you an application form in August. If your child returns to full-time education in September, fill in and return this application form. When you get your payment it will include any arrears due to you, including Child Benefit for July and August. If your child turns 18 during the summer you will get any arrears due up until the month they turn 18 – provided they return to education in September.
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/social_welfare_payments_to_families_and_children/child_benefit.html

If, as you were told, the last payment is in May then why would arrears be specifically mentioned for July and August but no mention of June?

You should challenge what you were told and phone again and ask to speak to a supervisor or write and send by registered post.

I got back on to them this afternoon and I finally got an explanation. When I filled in the form I put May as the month he finishes school because technically he did. Anyone who got allowance this month put June as the finishing time to include exam time as still being attending school. So it seems it was my own fault all along. They want a letter from the school to issue payment for June but the school won't give it because officially he's no longer a student. I should have just put June on the form to begin with.

Can't the school give you a letter confirming that he was a student till May and is now sitting Leaving Cert exams there?

The form I sent back last year had him down as being enrolled from September 2014 - May 2015. I should have put September 2014 - June 2015 , it seems that's what everyone else did.

I could ask the school again but I might just have to cut my losses as it was my own fault unfortunately.

Mamamia51, did the person you spoke to confirm that June qualified as school month? The person I spoke to reckoned it wasn't because he's officially finished since May.

Karen I rang and talked to a girl. She said my child should have been down as in till june. Form sent out so as soon as possible will get school to sign it. If it says you get it till june then June should be included surely?

    Mm

    Great, thanks a million.

I'll download the form and see will the school sign it and send it back, hopefully the person who receives it will be more understanding than the lady I spoke to.

    Thanks again.
