Limited Access Problem in Tipperary

    Hello There Everybody,

I am connected to Eircom and have had a reasonably good service at my home about Five miles from Tipperary. I am connected through a local exchange which is about 3 miles from my house. The download speed is 1.75Mg and Upload is around .20Mb. This was fairly stable until about last Christmas.

Since then my signal keeps dropping off and i get a message Limited Access. If i manually disconnect and reconnect it usually keeps working for another few minutes and then i have to repeat the above after it disconnects.

I have had the Eircom lads here several times and they have changed all the internal wiring and modem etc. to no effect.

What is the problem here and is there any way to fix it?

I have tried the other suppliers like Celtic & Mynet but their line of sight stuff will not pick up a signal here so no point in going to them.

    Any suggestions would be welcome

    Regards,

    Chevy RV

What do you do to reconnect?

    Hello ED E,

I just click on the internet signal on the status bar which brings me into the wireless network connection. Then i click disconnect and then click connect again.

It is just having to keep repeating this is very annoying when you are trying to work on it.

Can you confirm that this only happens when you are on a wireless network??

Do you lose connectivity to the outside (internet) when connected via a network cable??

When you loose connectivity, do other devices on your network drop theirs also?

Problem is your side, nothing to do with the ISP.

You need to update your wireless cards drivers, and if that doesn't do it fresh install them. This isn't perhaps an old toshiba/hp/conpaq from 2008ish perhaps?

    Hello ED E,

Yes its is a Toshiba Satellite Pro and around that time. Why would the cards need updating and how would i go about doing that?

My brother was using a IPad a few weeks ago here and he was having similar access problems which is why i thought it was an ISP issue.

In that case it could be a modem issue, but unlikely if they've changed it.

You probably have an atheros 5xxx series chip. There's an update for it at atheros.cz. Have somebody technical take a look for ya, 10 min jobbie.

    Hello ED E,

I have found the correct update but it has some unusual file types. What should i do to open them on my computer?

I have attached a copy of them on this word doc.

    Hello NoDrama,

I waited for the loss of signal to happen in use again and then i plugged the laptop into the modem using the Yellow Ethernet cable supplied with it.

This restored signal. However i do not want to leave it plugged in as the modem is situated about 10-12 feet away from where i use my laptop and i would rather no have a wire trailing around. The Yellow cable is also only about 1metre long.

    Hello All,

I have attached a screenshot ( in Word )of the 6 files which make up the update.

These are the files that i need to update my laptop. If anyone could inform me how to open these files for the update, i would very much appreciate it.
