I have the cycle to work scheme coming up again this year and want to get a hardtail MTB for about 1000e.

I used to be interested in knowing all the details of gears and brakes years ago but there's so much new stuff out there I am lost!

So far I am looking at...

    Cube LTD Pro
    Giant talon
    Orbea Alma h50
    Specialized rock hopper
and the Grand canyon al 6.9 but this seems to be unavailable in shops and the scheme I'm on is shop only...

So I'm completely lost between this lot, which is best?
I just want to start out so would appreciate any advice.

    Cheers.:)

Don't rule out the Boardman HT Team from halfords, available in 650B and 29r, I'd rate these above the ones you listed for spec. BUT, don't let halfords even open the box, either build it yourself or get your LBS to do it.

    Hi,

I'm not an expert as I started mtb recently but I got this one a few months ago and I'm delighted with it.

Had the same dilemma as you and went for the cube (race rather than pro). Had originally wanted the canyon but my BTW scheme made it very complicated. Cube seemed the best bang for buck but very difficult to find any reviews for the current model. Should have mine in a couple of weeks and will give you an update them if its any use!

Think this is coming in just over €1k.

Nice spec and bike for the money

im in the same boat. i had a 2013 boardman that i was in love with, and never gave me a days trouble. i cycled it 30K a day to commute. I would recomend them but as said build it yourself. im not a fan of the designs of the new frames though.

bikingdirty.com in rathmines have a commencal Meta AM hartail for 1200 that im thinking could be the bike im going to go for. seems like alot of bang for your buck.
