Couldn't pay fixed penalty fine because surname spelt incorrectly on Notice-summons has issued for D Court: what approach to take now as seems v harsh to get extra fine & extra points

Did you get a receipt off the post office when they couldn't take payment?

I did ye-should I plead guilty & look to have Judge amend summons & take original fine & points or not guilty & look to have it struck out?!

Guilty, if you plead not-guilty on the basis of a misspelling, the judge will just amend it there anyway and you'll end up with the full whack.

Presumably the judge has discretion to amend it on my application & I take original points & fine?

Yes, he has, but the points for going to court will be applied anyway.

That can't be right. He was unable to plead no contest and pay the fine.

OP this happened me before. I rang the garda and explained the situation and he cancelled the penalty notice and the summons and told me to take it as a warning and slow down.
