Munster Country House type venue recommendations?

    Hiya,

Looking for recommendations on Country House type venues for a wedding in Cork/Limerick/General Munster area for roughly 70-ish people including kids. Something that isn't going to break the bank either and some place that we might not easily find online.

We're after somewhere where we can have a civil ceremony and reception in the one venue and guests can preferably stay on-site too. Hoping for somewhere really non-traditional and where we can put our own stamp on it, I really want to do a lot of the decorations and DIY most of it. We like the idea of everyone just being able to relax and have a few drinks and maybe a dance if they fancy it but not it a standard speeches/food/drinking/dancing hotel wedding kind of way if that makes sense.

I had my eye on Barnabrow but I'm after reading some not so great things about it which is putting me off - and also the fact that we're planning an autumn/winter 2016 wedding and I read it's very cold there :pac:

Thanks a million in advance for any suggestions :)

Not sure what you mean by somewhere you can't find easily online. Hidden Ireland and one fab day is where you'll find them all listed. Ballyvolane house is my favourite. There'll be none that aren't expensive. That type of wedding costs more than a standard hotel wedding

    Hidden Ireland are great alright.

There is one but I can never remember the name of it I shall google, it is on the kinda bypass road outside Fermoy..
There is another house in Clon you might need to get a marquee they were just setting up when we were enquiry but the lady there is lover, nice and off the road so good for kids..Dunowen house..

    Blackwater of course.
Innishannon but I wasn't impressed with her prices
    Templemichael but that is expensive
    the mills inn

    there are lots of them

Thanks so much for the suggestions so far :D

I just meant that when I search country house weddings the usual suspects kept popping up and was hoping to find options other than those. I worded it a little badly, sorry :P

Ballintaggart House if your willing to travel to Dingle.

Does it have to be country house? To me Country House = Big bucks. I don't know how you're going to manage it without breaking the bank.

Ballinacurra in kinsale is lovely, but big money.

This one might be a bit off the wall, but have you looked at the Cork Cricket Club on the mardyke? They hire out for events. I've been to a wedding there and it was a blast. Very DIY, very Cork! And the couple popped into fitzgeralds park next door for photos.

There's no accommodation on site, but plenty of options in the city nearby, from hostels all the way up to 5 star.

Thanks for that, I never thought of somewhere like there!! Definitely something to add to the list!
Ballinacurra is lovely, but like you said, very costly :(

After a bit of hunting we also found Inish Beg which looks like it could be an option, and my OH also found Glengarrif Lodge.

Try carry ferry house in clare, it's near Shannon and they do packages starting at €45 per person. I've never been there but could be worth a look http://www.carrygerryhouse.com/weddings.html

    Hi there,
Getting hitched in Inish Beg next Month, great venue, staff are lovely and very helpful, but I would say that you really are hiring the venue and need to do everything yourself. its a blank canvas but a fabulous setting.

I really love the whole idea of a blank canvas! Have you had any difficulty with catering or anything like that?

We went to Baltimore at the weekend, and went into the Pirate Castle Dun na Sead, I never knew they do weddings there too. might e worth a look at. The owners are really nice there. thinks she said it would suit around 80 people

Bantry House might be somewhere to check out, it's a beautiful venue and you'll have the perfect setting for photos there! You can rent the stable wing and that'll fit about 70 people, I think :-) good luck with the search!

I'd say that's Ballyvolane house you're thinking of Milly?

I've heard it's lovely as well.

Not sure if Inish Beg is a budget option, my buddy that got married there certainly didn't give me that impression but maybe it depends on whether your numbers are big enough to need to hire a marquee OP?

No tisnt Ballyvolane, we went to see that too. Lovely but the price was quite high and the accommodation is a problem.

I can never think of the name wait I have it. This place http://www.ballinwillinhouse.com/ I was close sorry it is Mitchelstown.

Tried to go down the Country House root myself. Turned out to savagely expensive

Tried : Innishannon, Sprinford hall, Ballinacurra, Barnabrow, Vienna Woods.

Were all coming in about 7k. Plus there were additional issues with lodgings, bringing in your wine etc.

Went with a nice Hotel instead for nearly 2k less which will put towards a better honeymoon

It all depends really what ye want out of it... Innishannon was mad alright and the lady not very helpfull. We cut it down with having one day in innishannon for the same price you would get the place we choose for a weekend...

Vienna Woods is hardly a country house? I would class that as a hotel. And I'd say they are reasonably priced for weddings as well ?

7k, did you have small numbers?

How about Raheen House in Clonmel?

    Hey guys,
Thanks for all the suggestions so far! We have a viewing for Inish Beg set up, So far it's looking so far like it could be an option price-wise and stuff, it seems perfect for the kind of relaxed wedding that we're hoping for.

Longville house and springfort hall in mallow both country houses,

springfort hall do a lot of weddings so you may be aware of them already,

Longville is a lovely spot and make there own whiskey and cider too

I think you have 2 problems. Any 'house hotel' that does weddings is going to be expensive because that is their thing and they know how to charge.

Some venues charge you for the house and your bring in EVERYTHING yourself! Those costs can really rocket.

The other problem is finding an old house that isn't used for weddings but you run the risk of a power cut or electrics tripping out, or no toilets or other disasters.

Down the way, I loved Castle Oliver. One worth checking out.

are you thinking of doing wedding in the boathouse with the marquee that inish beg provide? i was at a wedding there recently but there was 200 guests so they hired their own separate marquee and organised all the catering themselves
