Wondering has anyone used irishrail to go on the midlands train to dublin reaching dublin @ 10.00am ....

then to go to dublin airport for 12.00pm flight....

Im hoping to do this rather than stay the night before...

SO that givrs gives me 2 hours from houston station to reach the airport....enough time for a ryanair flight?

Have you checked baggage, if yes then cutting it fine and would take an earlier train if possible unless you were prepared to take a taxi from the station.

Even without checked baggage you're cutting it fine.

I always allow a minimum of 90 minutes at the airport, even if travelling with hand luggage only.

Given the long walk to gates 1XX from where Ryanair depart from, that is all the more relevant.

That means being at the airport for at least 10:30.

I would suggest that you need to allow an hour for the 747 to get from Heuston to Dublin Airport.

As a result, the latest that I would intend arriving at Heuston Station is 09:30 - so therefore I'd suggest getting the train ahead of the one that you're looking at.

Yep you would be cutting it a bit tight alright. Earlier train would be the best option.

Where in the midlands are you coming from? Some of the coach services such as bus eireann or citylink coming from the midlands would go direct to the airport (or via city but you wouldn't have to change buses)

If you got a taxi from Heuston you'd make it but even then it will be squeaky bum stuff even for a walk on. Go for an earlier train if you possibly can. Airlines are far more unforgiving and expensive when it comes to missed deadlines and rearranged travel plans, dearer even than that overnight hotel and stress free morning.

not sure where "midlands" is, and if anything the midlands train would arrive into Connolly and not Heuston. That is if theres even a rail service at all, which is the case with 2 midlands counties (but they do have direct airport links)

If coming on the portlaoise line theres no lack of earlier options to get you in way before 10, with services every 20 min to half an hour.

Still, a bus straight to the airport would be the way to go depending on where in the "midlands" you are coming from

At around 10am from Heuston, the 747 would be about 45 minutes to the Airport. I can't remember if there's a handover on that one but I'm pretty sure there isn't.
