2013 Astra high pitched whining noise.

I have a 131 Astra and have noticed a very peculiar high pitched whining noise coming from the front of the car over the course of the last week or so. The noise isn't continuous. I have to drive for 15 mins or so and you will hear it then for 30 seconds or so, on or off. If I hit brakes, it stops and it seems to happen most often after I take a few corners or a roundabout. I have heard it after driving along the motorway at 120kph too on one occasion. Any ideas what it could be?

Note that I have checked the brake pads, as I thought it may be friction, if they are wasted but they have loads left on them both.

Only when the wife is in the car with you?

Should there not be buffeting/shaking if it is the wheel bearing? There is none for the record.
