Hi and apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum.

I'm looking to rent a car for 4 adults and 2 children to tour around Ireland for 5 days, and I've been given quotes for:

    - TOYOTA VERSO 5 + 2 or similar
    - Ford S-Max 7 seater Auto with Air Con or similar (automatic)

I don't know a whole lot about cars, so I had a quick look around on the internet. From what I can see, it looks like the 2 extra seats are in the boot, so that I can either have children or luggage, but not both! Obviously we'll need space for luggage.

Has anyone rented, or does anyone know these cars well enough to tell me if it possible to have both 6 people and luggage?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

A quick search on Avis shows "Renault Trafic or similar" which would easily take the 6 people and luggage As they're basically a 9 seater minibus. I'd imagine other companies have something to offer on those lines, VW Caravelle, or even a Transit/Tourneo. You do have to be over 30 though, and it won't come cheap.

    How about Ferrari FF?

    €1700!!!

Think I'll go with Asmooh's suggestion!

Seriously though, had a further root around the internet, and in the boot, one half can be used for luggage and the other for a seat, so that'll do. €510 from Europcar for 4 days.

It might be an idea to rent or buy a roof rack as you'd be very tight for space.

    Or rent two cars.

If you've got luggage, you'll need a van otherwise

Small 7 seaters like the ones you list won't be much good imo.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ll be travelling with the kids, my OH, and her parents who don’t speak English and have never driven abroad. So it’s just easier if we’re all in the one car.

We rented an s-max to do something similar in France a couple of years ago. Had to pile the luggage beside the seat in the boot and adults took turns back there. It was tight so anything smaller won't work.

What about the Ford Galaxy 7 seater with a nice sized area for luggage? Enterprise do that as a 7 seater in manual and automatic.

Problem is you won't be able to pin down a galaxy vs a smax vs anything else in the category. You get what's there.

    Should be still large though

I had a Galaxy for about 3 yrs and they are very spacious .
They are a bit bigger than the Smax - slightly wider and the roof line is higher at the back .
You need only use one of the 3rd row seats and have the rest for luggage .
On one occasion I had to bring 6 adults and luggage back from Dublin and managed it better than I expected .

Aren't the rear seats suitable for kids only though?

Rear(3rd row) are the best I've come across and tall teenagers and some adults often used them without any problems.
Had a Discovery 2 7 seater also at one time and the Galaxy was much roomier.
The OP said 4 adults and 2 children so the children can take turns in the interest of fairness :)
