    Hi

Recently moved to new house, has DSL / Phone line connected, Master socket just inside the front door.
There is an additional socket in the front room thats not working, no dial tone.
Checked the extra socket and it appears to be wired / connected to the socket.
Checked at the master socket, as far as I can tell its only the Eircom incoming connections that are connected to L1 and L2 on the master socket.

There are a few other lose wires exposed behind the socket that I presume belong to the extra socket wiring but I dont know which to connect and whether they should be connected to L1 / L2 on the master socket.

    Any help ?

I am not an expert on this topic so any simple instruction would be appreciated.

Get a multimeter to ID the pair you need.

They have to be wired onto the extension blocks, these are on the FRONT segment of the socket, not the rear, L1 R2 on the right side alligned vertically. These are for phone services only.

Ah brilliant, I didn't realise it was the front segment to wire to. That did the trick and working now. Thanks very much for your help!

I have an Eircom socket installed as part of my upgrade to fibre. I would like to know what the connections on it are.

The unit is in three parts. The first bit is just a surface mount box to attach it to the wall.

The next layer has four connectors on the back labelled L1 L2 S1 and S2. These are screw connectors and I assume are used to hardwire the phone line from the exchange. The front has what appears to be a RJ45 connector that connects to the top layer.

The top layer has two RJ11 connectors on the front - one for the telephone and one for the VDSL/DSL connection to the router.

It is the back of this top layer I am interested in.

On the back of this top box there are four connectors and two resistors (labelled ALARM). One connector is the RJ45 type that connects to layer two. Two connectors are three way screw connectors labelled S1 R S2 and L1 R L2. The fourth connector is a four-way IDC connector labelled IN OUT.

What I want to do is make hard-wired connections to replace the two RJ11 connectors on the front, so the wires for the internal phones can be wired directly, and the same for the router.

    Anyone know?
