Focus 06 or Ceed 07

    Hi all,

Buying a secon hand car and have narrowed it down to a focus or a kia ceed, max 5k

06 1.6 Zetec focus, 70k miles, nct jan 2016, tax just gone. 4000 euros private

07 Kia Ceed Lx, 1.4, 76k miles, Nct 2017 (not sure about tax yet) 3 months warranty buying from a dealer @ 5k

Personally I always liked the focus but my gut is telling me is a bit too much for the year and the ceed would be a better buy

Any thoughts on either? Or other options

    Thanks

Personally I think the Focus is a nicer all round car, a small bit less power but nicer interior, seats and to drive.

But with 8/9 year old cars it all depends on their history. Which ever one checks out best would be the better buy.

Focus has more quality looking interior, albeit a bit dull.
Ceed is brighter inside but will feel cheaper

Ceed def has a better engine for the tax money

Not much between them to drive, focus definitely has nicer steering though.

Space wise, they'll be similar. Focus might be a bit taller.

I'd probably get the Ceed, but it'd be close enough. If it was for shelve else abd I had to recommend one, it'd be the Ceed,

    Regarding to Focus,

Ask if items below changed/fixed/done so far for potential costs ahead:
    - Alternator
    - Dashboard
    - Timing belt (8 years or 100k miles interval for 1.6 automatic version. it may be different for manual version)

I had to do all of them in one year ownership of mint 2005 focus I bought last year. It aligns with what I read about focus ownership.

    Positives
    - Steering
    - Suspension
    - High seating position for short drivers

    Negatives
    - Sound insulation
    - Fuel consumption in city driving.(mine is automatic though and manual version may be better.)

I would try to stretch to a facelift version of Focus if I can.

    - Alternator - 160E to fix by auto electrician
    - Dashboard - 150E to fix by auto electrician
    - Timing belt + water pump - 570E at Ford Dealer

Ford parts would be way cheaper I'd imagine.

timing belt is very important, if buying the focus do not take their word for it. Ask for proof.
If the timing belt goes on a car, you are looking at serious problems.

but i would go for the focus myself, I have driven nothing but ford.
    great cars.
If possible get a mechanic to give it the once over if buying.

I simply paid for labour of fixing both alternator and dashboard. It wasn't cheapest considering the fixes needed are not too complex but guy was giving warranty on work and I went for it.

I would be surprised to get an alternator or dashboard from dealer cheaper than those prices but I didn't check it further than internet research so you may be right.

An auto electricians charges won't have any input from Ford unless new parts are being included.

    Alternators are refurbed for example.

Routine parts - brakes, plugs, filters are all reasonable for a Focus.

Ah I missed what you meant. Yes such parts are reasonable for the car from Ford dealer.
