Is it just me or does it seem wrong that a private garage can decide whether or not your vehicle passes the doe test. if anything it's in there interest to fail you, as there also offering the service of repairing your vehicle.
Should the DOE be carried out by companies with no connections with vehicle service industry
I know I wouldn't be happy if I had to bring my private vehicle to an nct centre with a repair garage attached and an owner with a smile like a Cheshire cat constantly rubbing is hands together

I brought a van into get a doe a few years ago. It only needed a proper bulk head installed, which I did myself and they passed it. Not a whiff of over selling, but I do see the concern. Its certainly odd that commercial vehicles are tested like this.

It's tan like this in the UK too with their MOT system.
It means you can get a booking within the week if pushed.

You don't have to get it repaired where it's tested. Plenty of people will be on here giving out about the NCT not being done by private garages, but they used to do the MOT by private garages in NI and had to go to our method due to the amount of corruption.

As with all testing systems it has it's flaws, a hell of a lot of them have been resolved with the new rules, but there will always be cowboys no matter what system is used.

Maybe I'm paranoid ,I just think the garage owners would be more inclined to fail you, if business was bad.
