Dc40 upright animal Dyson currently €299 but tradein allows up to €140 discount. The condition of tradein doesn’t matter. Posted on hotukdeals for argos plenty of stock on argos.ie. Not sure whether you get a full 140 as some people on UK site say that the shops are not giving the full discount others got vouchers for the difference. Offer may be available at other shops too?

I don't collect mine until tomorrow so would be interested to hear how you get on. Also make sure you get a 10 euro voucher when you spend over 100

Well didn't get it. Only offered €20 off the one i wanted. Looks like its only the upright model has the €140 off.
Gonna try and pick up the Aldi one tomorrow.

It appears that v trade in against dc40 animal is e90. Not converting too generously from the £80 stg in the UK

Bit of a crossover here as there is another thread (from another retailer) about these machines. They're obviously trying to clear this model.

Here's what I gathered from the reviews:
I considered it but the recurring negatives from the reviews seem to be:

    1. You have to keep the button pressed. Even the good reviews say this is a nuisance. Complaints ranging from cramps to blisters to tennis elbow (this reviewer stated they contacted Dyson who told them that they had heard of a few cases of it). Older people report they can't keep it pressed long enough to get the floor done in one go.

    2. Suction. If you use it on a carpet you'll have a plenty of dirt left. Reviewers have used a 'proper' vacuum after using this and been surprised with how much it had left behind. A lot say it's more suited to tiles/laminate and then others say it doesn't suit these surfaces because for them it just 'chases' the dirt around without sucking it up. Crap at pet hair.

    3. Battery life. Reviewers saying it lasts 6mins on full power, up to 20mins on a low power. Then it needs a 4 or 5 hour charge.

    4. Blocked head. Lots of reports of the head/brushes getting blocked far more frequently than it should and by all accounts it's extremely difficult and frustrating to unblock.

    5. Some say it's a fair bit heavier than the advertisements would have you believe.

Yeah I hoisted a display model in Tesco yesterday and it's a fair weight

Thrasher was offered 20 quid which wouldn't be great

According to UK forum they were only paying £53 for the dc40 so it is actually better discount in Ireland although rrp may be higher here I haven't checked

I'm going to check on the DC59 in store tomorrow.

Can someone explain to me why they do this, as in, why insist on taking the trade in and not simply issue a voucher of some sort. Is it not more hassle than it's worth?

I'm not sure about this time round, but last time this offer was on Argos had a specific code online for reserving with the discount applied. I used it to get the discount and wasn't asked for the trade in when I collected in store.

I was offered €20 quid for trade ins on both DC44 and DC59.

Don't think I'll be availing of their 'generous' offer!!

I got 67.50 off the dc40 which is not 140 but better than 20! They don't seem to be giving anything worthwhile on the cordless machines

That was in Argos Nutgrove btw

Argos are selling dc59 for 399, it's available for 339 in power city

DC44 is 349 in argos and as the poster above notes, is significantly cheaper elsewhere, power city, harvey norman or aldi (if you can find one).

and given their starting prices they would need to be giving decent trade in values, in order to be competitive, the staff I talked to didn't know anything about the offer and they eventually came back with that €20, which I think they found on a list somewhere, it seems like it depends on who you talk to.

It's very misleading advertising claiming that you can get up to 140 euro off on a trade in and giving as little as 20 euro in some cases. e

Stay away from this, biggest piece of junk ever, you get around 7 mins on full power for a 12 hour charge, and barely sucks up anything at that.

Ended up having to buy a cheap one for 50 euro, hundred times better.

Fit for the skip so it is.
