Considering buying a new frame. If I do it's gonna be steel. Budget is €1000.

    Considering this. Any other suggestions?

Bob Jackson? 631 Olympus Road frame £585?

I bought a vigorelli two years ago, and the finish is very nice

I'd be going the custom fit frame route if going for steel.

Nice frame but you can get comparable frames for alot less considering its CroMo 4130, nothing wrong with it, I rode, toured and raced on 4130 but it is on of the better valuable steels, can't understand why it is so expensive there.

For the budget, definitely, no need to get something that can do what you want, get something designed specifically for what you want.

Dunno if you'd get within the 1k budget though.

Would like to be proved wrong!

I've seen a few custom Seven frames that are beautiful. Get great reviews.

The exchange rate rules out Mercian I'd say.

My pride and joy came from them, but the bib Jackson is a great frame too!

I like the Ritchey Logic frame, its looking likely to be my next bike as I've had a long spell of carbon frames now but it'll be next year by the time I change so who knows!

Yeah, forgot about the exchange rate, my last trip to visit the folks wasn't cheap.

I was very happy with my Bob Jackson, customer service was good too.

The Seven frames are beautiful, but a little more than €1000 ;)

Sorry to harp on, but this came up in my installation feed today from "headset press" .

    Too coincidental not to post!

Thanks, Cram, I wondered about the steel used as the Stevens site did not appear to specify (now we know why). It is a very pretty, lugged, steel frame though.

There is a stainless steel, Columbus xcr, frame for sale over on bike radar forum in the UK. It's an enigma frame with a 57 top tube. Think he is looking for 950 sterling. If I could afford it I'd be tempted, I'd prefer my next frame to be ti as I have an enigma in 853 steel and I'm very happy with it.

I don't know what it would cost but you could keep it local and try the Brendan Whelan in the bicycle design centre.

I imagine the cost is due to the lugging and to make it more "attractive".

There is nothing wrong with it, it's a fine steel, it's just not one of the expensive ones and the price of the frame does not seem to match up with it.

This said, my last 4130 bike was a beauty to ride, and was, if anything, far to cheap, responsive and comfy, i certainly would not be a snob, but if I was paying that much, I would like something special, like rust resistance or better resale value.

How much money are you looking at for one of those custom steel frames?

Plan on getting in touch with Brendan this week.

If that doesn't work out I'll probably go with Bob Jackson.
