Longest layoff ?

Just come back from an enforced layoff (runners knee).
Reckon I'm managing by resting for a week and extra stretches.

Got me thinking ... what was your longest running related layoff ?
What happened ? How did you fix the issue (if it's fixed) or how have you adapted your training for it if not ?

    I've been lucky/I'm new/I'm young - no enforced layoffs at all !

    Dropped metatarsal head
    Out for six weeks

Lots of stretching & metatarsal pads in all shoes (not just runners)

Torn ankle ligaments, out for 5 months.

Lots of physio and dry needling, strength and flexibility exercises. Don't go overboard when it comes to pace this year and all should be fine.

5 months with slipped disc (I took less time off when I was pregnant ). Was a blessing in disguise really because it forced me to strengthen my core and address various imbalances and I came out the other side a much stronger runner. The fix was a combination of Pilates, Osteopathy, gym work, specific back exercises and PATIENCE. I walked the legs off myself and still really dislike walking now. When I returned to running I stuck to grass and trail as much as possible and did a walk/jog plan that took a month to get to running 20 minutes straight . But, touch wood, I haven't had a relapse, and that was 2 years ago now.

8 weeks earlier this year with planter fascists, could barely walk some days with the pain. The fix seems to be combo of physio, stretches & strength training & fingers crossed it'll stay at bay!

This is starting to sound like one of those confessional self-help groups in Fight Club. Do we have any advance on 12-month hamstring folks. Anybody?! :pac:

18 months of very little running as a result of the back and pelvis problems caused by a fall during a race and exacerbated by a terrible IKEA bed at one point.

Sadly I can go one higher than that. 39 years of non runningness. But hell I'm making up for it now!
