    Hi all,

I started a job as a script corrector in college in the 2014/15 academic year. I wasn't required to fill out any documentation, only my payslips which had my personal details (address, PPS number, DOB, etc...) and the total number of hours I worked. It was a casual job whereby I worked about 10 hours every 2 weeks which totaled about 100 hours over the academic year. I recently saw that I got charged a lot for PAYE on my most recent payslip. This led me to research tax and realise that I am probably being charged emergency tax. I am not employed by the college (like I never got an employee number or anything), its just casual payment whenever I actually corrected stuff and this was indicated on my form as a casual payment. With the academic year finished, I am going to be doing a summer internship at a firm and it requires me to fill out the 12A form or send them a P45 form if I have worked in Ireland before. Technically I have worked here, but I have never received a P45 form as I never signed a contract or was let go (merely the academic year finished meaning I didn't have to correct anymore). I am going to complete the 12A form and send it back to my local revenue office, but what further action must be done to reclaim money from the tax paid over the course of this academic year? I don't have my payslips as I threw them out (Foolishly). On my 12A form, should I indicate my new employer's details? If it is of any use, I have a p60 form from the college received in Jan. How can I go about reclaiming the money I should have gotten from my correcting job?

Your question has some conflicting statements. If you have payslips and PAYE was deducted you were an employee.

you are an employee of the college and as you said are likely to be on emergency tax.

When did you realise you were being taxed more than expected, did you not notice it on the payslips before you threw them out.

It's likely you will get all your PAYE tax back if you contact revenue and ask them for a P21 statement.

You should also talk to them regards never having applied for tax credits. They'll tell you what you need to do, probably the P12 as you've mentioned.

You then need to decide how much of your tax credits you wish to allocate to your college and your new job.
