    Hi Folks,

I usually fill up at an applegreen but last week filled up at local Esso station... i seem to be getting about an extra 80km out of the tank that i would normally get.. that's about 5 to 8% more than normal.

Anyone else experience that kind of difference between fuels?

    Cheers,
    Mick

I'd say thats about right, plenty of threads on here on fuel brand comparisons and applegreen generally comes very low, even claims of it damaging engines over time.

Maxol always comes out on top of these polls in the past. I'd have to agree too, Maxol always gives me more miles and the car feels more precise in acceleration and smoother running.

See if that happens over a few tanks - it could just be coincidence.

Whilst in the UK I started using tesco diesel, then switched to BP and my mpg increased by 4-5 mpg. Definitely is a difference

Alot of fuel vendors add their own additives while others don't.

No way any additive is good for a 5-8% difference.

I have found a few times that after previously getting around 680 miles per tank, switching to a different station gave me 40-50 miles more. Results are consistent. Recently I started filling up in a Texaco station and got 750 on one tank, around 730 since. Went back to previous place and got around 680 again.

I know all cars differ but I drive a Audi and the trip computer will read a great remaining fuel figure after a nice long steady trip on a motorway but then the next day I take the regular city driving route and this drops (not by much but enough to notice the difference) so make sure you are measuring this difference on the same commute to be accurate.

The 5-8% difference is what the OP is estimating, in fact we don't know how the OP is calculating his or her fuel consumption between the two different brands. Going by the car's trip computer or the brimming method? Are the journeys the exact same for both, etc?

Also to my knowledge all the different fuel companies here get their fuel from the same refinery - Whitegate in Cork. Some of them then put their own additives in it.

With reference to all of the above. This topic comes up time and time again.
This garage is crap, car runs better on said garage, 100mpg etc.
I work for a large transport company with a mix of trucks , vans , company cars etc.
I drive for a living and travel upwards of 90,000klm a year around ireland with a mix of country and motorway driving. My boss will tell you after staff/wages fuel is his biggest expense. So he is always trying to save money. He will tell you the only way to save money on fuel is to get the cheapest per litre price.
For the past year we have been running the entire fleet on applegreen fuel with no increase or decrease in mpg with no running problems.
Prior to that all texaco for a number of years as above.
Imo there is no difference in quallity from the main suppliers and unless your buying your
fuel from some dodgy independent you wont have any problems.
All our vehicles are serviced on the button hence trouble free , which alot of car drivers fail to do and when they claim low mpg they blame the fuel and not the lack of servicing.

I get the furthest on texacos petrol and diesel. Maxol would probably be second. I filled up once with applegreen and never again. Car ran very rough and lost about a third of my usual range
