Postal order expiry question

I found an uncashed postal order lying at the bottom of a drawer but the only thing is it's from late 2009. It says on the back it's valid for 6 months but that it can be renewed subject to the deduction of the prescribed fee but I'm thinking myself that 6 years is a bit long to not have cashed it. Anyone know anything about this?

How can they put a time on you giving them legal tender to send via a piece of paper they honour ? And they charge a fee for you to send legal tender this way. They still have the money in their account it has not evaporated.
