Windscreen damaged

    Hi All,

On the N11 yesterday morning heading to work, one of the vehicles in front kicked up a big stone about the diameter of a €2 coin and smacked off the windscreen with a serious bang.

Oddly there's no chip or crack but instead three tiny scuff marks, normally I would just leave it at that but these marks are almost directly in my field of view so its a little distracting.

My question is... is it possible to repair scuff marks? I can feel them when rubbing at them so there's obviously tiny fragments of glass missing. :(

    Best regards,
    Gary

Check with your insurance as you possibly have windscreen cover included!

Fully comp with Liberty, which gives me windscreen cover without affecting my NCB as far as I'm aware.

It's certainly not serious enough to warrant a new windscreen (in my unprofessional opinion) but I'm just wondering if it could be repaired or polished out??

From what I've researched so far, a windscreen is 'chipped' when it fails from the outside pane to the laminate but my damage is much lighter than that, I cant find much at all about repairing my type of chips or scuffs as I like to call them.

Auto glass do repair some chips but they will not do it for something that is in the driver direct line of vision, you could always call them and ask what they think about your damage just, remember that if you do go ahead with any repair organise it through the insurance company and not direct with auto glass.

Called autoglass to enquire if the scuffs were repairable, they jumped right in to say I needed a full replacement without knowing the particulars of the damage which was off putting as it made them sound like cash hungry lunatics.

They really pushed for a replacement when they heard I was fully comp with Liberty.... wonder why

I'm still on the fence about fixing it or living with it, also a brand new windscreen might whistle in the wind or let in water as I seen happen to others back home.

Be careful, as far as I am aware Mr Windscreen are Liberty's approved repairer and they may not cover the full costs of an Autoglass fix/replacement. Call them

Same problem and happened to me twice in the last two years, both times the screens were replaced under insurance.

It's dangerous at night and in sun at eye level.

Liberty are Autoglass, there should be a number for glass on your policy, it's an Autoglass number.

That would explain why I'm ringing Libertys windscreen repair number but getting forwarded to autoglass!!!

Maybe I'll just let autoglass do it their way then.
