List of Paid Up Members circulated in advance of AGM - data protection issues?

Earlier today I received notice of the AGM of a club I'm a member of. Attached was a list of paid up members who are entitled to vote at the AGM. Is this a breach of data protection law? I'm 99% certain that this is the first time this has happened in over 15 years of membership.

It was a list of members circulated to members.

Is the company secretary a data controller pursuant to the data protection act?

I cant see how it is a breach of data protection.

Many clubs have lists of members on the premises, either posted on notice boards or held in book form and which are available for perusal. Unless it's giving out anything beyond their names then there is no issue in you being sent such a list.

Thanks, was just surprised as it's never happened before.

I've been in clubs where they had a list of paid-up members on the noticeboard, maybe it was a subtle form of intimidation to pay your subs on time!

I don't think there's any issue with circulating a member list to the members, unless you consider the club to be a 'secret society'.

But I think the real reason for circulating the list in advance of the AGM is so that people who are up for election or proposing motions can see who they should be lobbying for votes, it sounds like proper procedure to me.
