We are going to Glencree this weekend. Can you suggest any marked walks in the area? 8 to 12km s would be ideal.

From Crone wood carpark (anyone can tell you where it is) and up Djouce (or Maulin if that's too far). Lovely hike, marked as the Wicklow way.

There's lots of other hikes in the area, but not many that I can think of that are marked e.g. around Lough Bray. You could drive down to Tibradden carpark and do a nice simple hike up onto Fairy castle with great views of Dublin.

Thanks you very much for that. Will take your advice. Hope to walk Sat and Sun so will go to Crone one of the days. Lough Tay and Lough Dan seem popular. Are they marked?

There is a track that goes from the Pier Gates (O171 065) above the Luggala valley all the way to Lough Dan and whilst it is through private land but the owners are ok with access as far as I am aware. It starts of as a tarmac road that becomes a track after it passes by a large dwelling on the left.

You can also take a trail (approx O161 062 off the track to Lough Dan) that runs back up to the top of Luggala / Fancy mountain and there are excellent views over Lough Tay from here. You used to be able to cut North off this trail to the Western shore of Lough Tay but I am not too sure whether the landlowners are ok with access at this point nowadays; This area gives access to various rock climbing routes on Luggala and I believe that current advice for climbers is to approach the crags from the Military Road over open mountainside rather than approach from the base so possibly access is suspect.

There is also another trail off the Lough Dan track that runs up onto Knocknacloghoge but this is not always an obvious route to follow.

An excellent walk is Tirbradden woods from the far side. It's stiff going in places and you will need better than trainers as footwear in places but the views are excellent and the paths wide and easy to follow with a few maps and signposts along the way. If you are feeling like it then the top of Fairy Hill is waiting for you though the surface is rocky and again, trainers will be found wanting.
