It's more of an Italian thing.

Italian chippers association is behind the 'day'.

Too common for the Barron. Only Bluefin Tuna with baby roast potatoes cooked in the fat of Scottish Lobster will do.

A glass of Riesling to go with it. Maybe two if celebrating a play on the stock market.

Its quite strange that Italians who are world reknowned for their national foods, are more cherished in Ireland (and probably the UK) for chippers rather than their pasta foods.

A bit like the Chinese and Curry. A Chinese take-away wouldnt last 5 minutes if they took Curry from the menu :pac:

National, lol. I see one a half hour drive from here (and it's stink) and the next nearest is in Roscommon.

I suppose I'm some sort of malcontent because I don't enjoy eating frozen "cod" fillets dipped in a heavy greasy batter served alongside soggy over-salted chips. It's the type of disgusting slop you see overweight Irish men guzzling down after a feed of porter on a Saturday night.

I adore fish. However I stick to the KISS* rule. Depending on if my fishmonger can guarantee the quality tomorrow evening I will be having turbot with a ginger and lime sauce and steamed greens.

    *Keep it simple stupid

Ah, your ok Aongus, I agree with some of your views on food and good espresso coffee, (Jura machines).

I like fresh fish too, salmon, lemon sole, plaice, but sometimes a quick fish and chips from a take-away has to be done.

Yeah we know, genius. It came over here via Italians who emigrated from the UK.

My local chipper uses fresh fish caught locally. It's mentioned in most tourist books and you can't get in on Saturday as its jammed with tourists. I agree with loving normal fish - easy to cook if not to perfect - but a fish n chips is an ok indulgence.

    Also hake beats Cod.
