A good physio or sports therapist is what you need. Best of luck with it, not a nice complaint to have :)

Physio or sports therapist is ideal. Chiro will do nothing for shin splints, gp will give pain killers and reffer to a physio.

Physio and rest. I'm just recovering from them. No harm getting your shoes looked at too. My insoles and shoes weren't suited to me which was the cause on my side.

Keep the faith mj, I had shin splints diagnosed in a pub back in the 90s by one of the lads, up to that point I couldnt understand what this ache in both shins was after I'd get out of work late and have to leg it to Busaras for my bus. One night one of the lads who was doing running told me it was shin splints. I was feckin delighted to have a name put on my reason for not doing running, which I didnt for 20+ more years until last year when I bit the bullet and joined C25k. They definitely were a problem thru those months (specially when u stop and walk) and at different times thru that 1st year, BUT, now 17 months on, I'm fairly happy to say that they arent an issue. Have I built up more density in the muscle there, hopefully yes. So keep the faith, it might be similar for you.

Not knowing you, there are obviously other things that could cause that pain you have... shrapnel, escaped convict with ball and chain still attached etc... but if its just that you need to build things up, then best of luck and stick with it.
