Why would they be telling me that on tracking info though?

“Opening” refers to the step of customs check “Departure from outward office of exchange” indicates the parcel was ready for shipment. I just googled.

Our local chinese delivers too, but there's no tracking - you just phone them and then a lad in a Boxy Micra eventually turns up looking bewildered with luke-warm take-away food. Being rural sucks..

It was opened by customs in China, who will advise customs here. Duty will be due at the very least!

    Item ordered from USA website.
    Dispatched via Singapore.
    Arrived about 2 weeks later.
    Free postage.
    Jiffy pack..small'ish.
You gotta wait...... It wasn't an issue with me.

Don't assume it'll be on the next Intercontinental flight. It won't.

Probably VAT of about 25 plus duty depending on the nature of the product and possibly a handling charge.

It will be a month to 6 weeks before you know.

This means that it is in the postal office in Shenzhen which is a city in China and that it has been opened by customs.

If it gets caught by customs when it is coming go into Ireland you will have to pay VAT on the order and also an An Post handling charge.

It's well known that various workers at this dodgy office put suspect contraband like narcoticas etc... into random packages to distract screening further down the system.
Lets just say a call from customs re duty will be the least of your worries.

If I were you, I'd move house.
Or even better, burn it down now while you have the chance.

This means or has gone through customs it may or may not have been opened but probably not. The chances are it way sniffed by a few dogs and maybe put through a scanner. It depends on what shipping method was just but with normal China post shipping you should get it in 2-4 weeks.

So why do you care? If it's someone else's gift then let them pay any duty owing on it (which has to be paid before delivery usually)

Customs rarely open stuff when the package is leaving a country (unless they suspect it's something highly illegal). It's customs in the country on the receiving end that do all the parcel rifling.

Here is the man to ask!

BTW, 'exchange open' more than likely just means that the package has been logged in the system and assigned a registered number.
